Seeing Double

Both of the Galapagos tortoise hatchlings are out of the egg and doing great! This is a very sensitive stage of life as they finish absorbing the yolk sac and the plastron midline closes up. The yolk sac will provide all the necessary nutritional requirements for the first couple weeks of life, however we still provide a variety of food items for them to test out and get a taste for as they will curiously nibble anything nearby. The most important requirement at this stage of life is humidity to assure the umbilicus closes correctly.
